THE NORTH EASTERN RIVERINE LOOP 2025

If you are looking for one of Singapore's most scenic outdoor nature experiences that is underrated, the North Eastern Riverine Loop (NERL) should be at the top of your list. It was officially opened in February 2012, connecting four parks — Punggol Park, Punggol Point Park, Punggol Waterway Park and Sengkang Riverside Park in a 26km loop connecting rivers, wetlands and coastal areas. Whether you want a full day outdoor adventure or a short stroll along section of the loop here’s everything you need to know.

The entire length of the loop is approximately 26km which will take 6-7 hours by foot or 2-3 hours cycling which we will recommend if you are trying to cover most parts of the loop. Here are some key highlights along the loop



Punggol Waterway park



U can’t miss the Venice of Punggol with a man made canal running though punggol with Punggol Safra and Waterway point that could be found along the park.




Lorong Halus Wetland



Lorong Halus Wetland is a former landfill that’s turned into a thriving wetland ecosystem by PUB (Public Utilities Board). It would help treat potential contaminants in the groundwater and serve as a bio-remdiation system for Serganoon Reservior. There are obscure dirt tracks in Lorong Halus if your up for exploring it and also the famous Lorong Halus Red briddge were you ccan catch beautiful sunsets when the skies are clear.



Coney Island Park



Coney Island is a small island located off the northeastern coast of Singapore that was reclaimed in the 1990s as a park. It’s officially open to the public as a park in 2015 featuring a two kilometre long beach, boardwalks and trails to get up close with nature. Visitors can use the two bridges on each end of the island to enter the island with the West Entrance now connected to the newly built SIT campus



Punggol Promenade



This 2.4km nature walk lies along the coast of Punggol opposite of Coney Island that stretches from Lor Halus Red Bridge to the Punggol Settlement. It’s a relatively quiet stretch of PCN but popular in the evening for Punggol residents to take a stroll or run along and cycle along. 




Sengkang Riverside Park



It is the equivalent of Jurong Lake Gardens in the NorthEast of Singapore located at Anchorvale Street, opposite of Sengkang Active SG complex connected by the Sengkang Riverside Bridge. The park contains multiple trails, boardwalks, pavilions for you to have an unobstructed view of the greenery and the wetland.
